Hi
I bought a 64 at the beginning of this year to have a bug to drive.
As i have another project undergoing, the bug will be slowly modified as time goes by.
First step is to drive it at his standard high, with my Crestline at rear and chrome 356 at front.
Later, the front will be lowered, the body will be dechromed and the car will receive my Moon Speedmaster wheels.
Finally it will be painted black.

The car comes from Sweden: i bought it near Antwerp in Holland.

She is very straight, only the 2 doors are completly out , i already have a NOS right one ,i found a second hand left from arizona but i would prefer a to fit NOS.. Undecided

I'm gonna give it the look of an old pre-cal (as some example seen in the Cal Look 2),i have the wheels and tires from my old black 55 when she had the "Fleming" look Wink:

And to give a view of the future, it should end as a the same style as Dave Kanase'64.

But only paint and dechromed body work will be the same, effectively i prefer to keep the vent wings, i prefer T-bars, and the Speedmaster wheels will also do the difference.
Concerning interior: a Scat steering wheel (as in Dave Rhoads 64), berg shifter, bucketseats, black door panels, VDO gauges, a MPH US speedo from 1972  Grin Kiss, dechromed dashboard,...
Engine will have 2 48IDAs with Berg linkage, 010, dynamo, very simple but effective look....cal-look  Wink

David

Hello fabian, Hello Peter,

Nice to meet you here,...
I always had in mind to build a cal-look, but i didn't wanted to do it on the 55, it was an untouched and unrestored beetle which didn't deserve to be welded and modified too much. It's the reason i sold it. The 67 split panel Off-road had also to go due to the lack of use it should have provided once finished.
I recently also sold my Apal Jet which i did in an "Old School" spirit nearly period perfect look.

I always loved a cal-look on a 60-64 model, so when i found this Java, not perfect but with an incredible straight body (gaps on front and rear bonnets are perfect), i bought it . Some cars like the Larry Shaw bug or the Dave Kanase 64 are my favorites. So my 64 will be black....and i still have the gold speedmaster.

The US cars are still there waiting patiently that i find a house with a big garage to continue their mods in a confortable environment. I don't want the ATI Procharger to sit too long in the rack....
The Skylark has all the parts in storage and the Catalina wait for her V8(which sits in the garage) and bags.
I put my other cars 4 sale because of a real demon running in my head....(see my avatar  Roll Eyes ) who knows...one day....

C you soon in Spa

http://westcoast.skyneblogs.be

Hi Keith, i modified my text, so now you can read that i placed a MPH speedo (in Belgium we are KMH) from 1972 in my dashboard and not a 1972MPH speedo (too slow for me  Roll Eyes) Grin Wink
Just one question, why was PEPTO a red squareback with a ragtop became a pink sqbk without ragtop ?? Did they welded the roof??

Hello Yves,

i don't know if this car really deserves updates it's not a high $$$$ project, but for those interested, i made a few pictures of the collected parts.

the dashboard, Scat steering, bucket seats and much of the accessories are now black (knobs, column, Neiman, ....much to come)

the rear bench seat comes from a 70' standard model (spaarkafer).

the side mirrors

the future engine

the wheels

I tried the Speedmaster on the bug.

Now the diagonals are gone and the wheels are fitted with 145 and 205 tires.

Before the full resto, i will drive it in this configuration....

front are 356's with old diagonals, rear are cal parts with bia ply, the exhaust is a glass pack.
Could have been seen in the KS book  Wink

I was very pleased to receive an award even if it was absolutely not my goal, I just wanted to build a cal-look as seen in the early days...
It's not a show car, it's not (yet) a fast car, it's a project under construction, still a lot of things to do or improve....but the spirit is there. Smiley
Congrats to my friend Gregory for his beautifull oval....

It looks like the Images have disappeared from the hosting website ... Cheesy

Back from DDD12, the Dodge with the 64 in tow.....

I nearly have all the parts to build the 2276cc.
Hope to have the funds to do it this winter as I also have to replace the gearbox of my Procharged Buick and buy a new daily driver ... Tongue
And with the new engine, I will need to rebuild the front end and add disc brakes....
