Type 3 measurement needed!
«

January 31, 2010, 13:27:41 pm »
Hello guys,
About a month ago my daily driver notchback got banged up pretty bad in a hit and run accident by a drunk driver.
Yesterday I started the work on the car, but it seems the backside has moved quite a bit (it was very hard to get the engine out).
If anyone has an engine-less type 3 in the garage, it would be very helpful to me if you could provide me the distance from the bottom edge of the transaxle belhousing to the bottom lip of the air intake. Mine's a '68 model.
Oh, and later on I might need some help of the "cal-look lounge lynch mob" to help resolve some issues with the asshole who did this.
Thanks in advance.
Sam

Hi,

But i dont know, if it's the same distance between a 62 and a 68...

Thanks Mario, that would be great!
Also, I like the backside shots you took of your car, they help quite a lot.
http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,10569.0.html
Because in my car I can't even see the original shapes through all the smashed and twisted metal.
If you have any more, (especially of the righthand side) feel free to post them.

hey, i can measure the fastback for you the engine is out, but the accuracy from the gearbox to the fan is questionable as the gearbox is fixed on rubber mounts. i would use the framehorns as a reference.
i'll pm you my cellphone to go lynch

Hey Sam, You can always come and measure Liesbeth's trunk. Oops I bet you all read that the wrong way. Of course what I meant is: you can always come and measure the Notchback in our garage. The engine is still in though, but feel free to pull it anytime.
As for the lynching you know the Wunderwaffe are go, some of us even look frightening!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I know this sucks, but it's all just metal. It' ll bend back, right?

Hmmm, I appreciate the offer, but that will only slow down my work.

Hey Nicolas, is this measured from the bellhousing or the framehorn? I don't think the rubber gearbox mounts will make much difference from car to car. I will check tomorrow at what measurement I am right now. Thanks!
This is where I started yesterday, and where I'm at today:

If you end up using a donor car Sam, I know someone who needs a complete front end for a '69 Sqareback...

Hey Sam,
Pat from the shop with the same name has a 68 notch in his garage, with no engine but a gearbox in it..
Maybe you can contact him and try to get there and mesure the car yourself..

Thanks for that info, Roland.
The car is straightening out pretty good. The rear lines up with the decklid now and de inner structures are straight. Progress is not as quick as I wanted it, but I'm getting there. Tomorrow I'll test-fit the engine, and see if I need to measure some more.

That's bad news about the crash. Looks to be shaping up to be a great repair though. :-)
