Finally... a functional and practical use for roof racks on a VW. But only in this application. Fake luggage, surfboards, and other flotsam is completely and utterly feckless. Although rather entertaining.

nico you're the rally archivist Finally... a functional and practical use for roof racks on a VW. But only in this application. Fake luggage, surfboards, and other flotsam is completely and utterly feckless. Although rather entertaining.
And you can notice the roof-rack is on the car for the first pic only, it's been used only for the rallying stage of the rally (where assitance and following cars are forbidden, driver and co-driver have to maintain the car running by themselves). Then it was removed for time-attack stages, where you can have an assistance. Good times when rallys where called "rally' for a good reason and when they lasted during one week or 10 days.

what are those outlets in upper part of the fanhousing for? I guess (not sure) this could be for heating. Rally cars usually keep the heating system. Also you can notice that the exhaust system still has the heating boxes, the FIA rule for the under-1600cc class said the car must have the stock style exhaust system.

Exhaust only have stock style on the outside to respect FIA rules, but has been very modified on the inside.
