When the bodies at VW events have proper stance... you will find Dyno Don.

Right before I sold my '66, I was working at the Long Beach airport. Hence this shot of my car with n.o.s. 356 silver wheels and FOR SALE letters in the rear quarter windows. Looks like a DC-3 aircraft. A wonderful bird that used to fly the postal mail out to Santa Catalina Island every day.

I still see one flying out to the island, daily. Often, I wonder if it's the same bird.

thats not a DC3, looks like a Beech 18 to me, nice pic though.

Andy, I think that you're right about the Beech 18, which had twin vertical stabilizers. Now that I look at the pic again... it doesn't have the same look as the DC-3. Come to think of it, the 18 is what I was responsible for fueling every morning before anyone got to the airport. It was used to deliver postal mail to the island. They'd also use a Grumman Goose seaplane that was really cool. We also had the Catalina Flying Boats from Long Beach airport.

Thanks for the correction... it's been years since I've seen that picture and just assumed it was a DC-3, since there were so many, there.

Ian, that's quite an interesting car in the foreground. Any more pics or information on it?

That is from a japanese guy called Saito. Car is actually a Porsche 912 with Typ 3 aprons and wings. IMHO the front bumper sits to low, otherwise very good looking car.
Cheers,

There's something about it in an issue of Street VWs from early last year, maybe before but I dodn't remember which issue. I think there was also a page on-line sith some build pictures.

It doesn't say anything about the build, except it was done using a 912 and a type 3 as a basis.

PS: That thing's ugly!

Hmmmmmm verty very interesting - I'm still in two minds about this one - I really like the side profile BUT the front and rear valances need some work still, they look like a bit of an afterthought

Thats getting somewhere close  Wink I have noticed a few other details I would change - how about radius on the front corners of the doors and also on the front edge of the bonnet/hood - oh yeah and maybe change the headlamps - I REALLY like this car  Smiley

Lawrence, way back on page 30 or something, your Thanksgiving day pics... where was this shot taken? Is that in the Bay Area? I don't recognize it and I thought I knew all the cool roads up there...

Jim, that shot was taken off of 280 on the edgewood rd exit heading west. The t intersection in the distance is Crystal Springs road.

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, the car still looks the same. I might add some fake aluminum drum covers or some nipple caps. Maybe some euro bumpers. I am pleased with the look for now. Grin
