Very clean car setup to run at 'the salt' or at 'old Smokey' -- -- it would take a million years to detail it after a run at either of those places

Awesome Nico86...I remember alot of those cars so well. Growing up in the 80's, these were the cars that were featured in the mags, and the style of cars that you saw at the shows, and they left a big impression on me. I thought that black flammed small window was just out of this world cool, and I use to dream of having a bug just like it. Man what an era, lots of great memories.

The red chop top... That wouldn't happen to be the same car that became Flat Four's Inch Pincher Too replica, is it? The chop looks strikingly similar.

I thought that oval window chop was found about a year or so ago. I remember pics of it on the Samba, it looked pretty bad, but I believe it was going to be redone...

See, I have the same thing but with 90's cars! Pro street was in, bright colours, big tyres, monster tachs and billet everywhere. It's definitely affected how I build a car to this day (still have to say no to billet in most forms but I still hanker over it from time to time). That black flamed car does it for me now! Sans louvred and a few clicks up on the back, I'd be all over it like white on rice.
That and the baby turbo mirrors everywhere! Was there a car they weren't fitted to then?

White car. Bryan's 1800 was one of the fiercest street engines in its time, but also super smooth as a driver. It would literally pull, like silk, from idle to 7500. One of the best engines that came out of our little group back then.

Hi Jim,
Any more details on the spec of the motor?

it was 88 x 74, welded DPR crank, Rimco super rods, Crown 6lb alum flywheel. Cam was Web 86B with Scat 1.4. Heads were a work of art, factory VW castings done at Heads Up in 1998 or so, stock valve sizes, but S/S. Fully ported, semi-hemi chambers. Compression was 8.8:1, good dual springs, Ti retainers. New Brazilian case, Mahle 88's, Bosch 010 with one spring, 48IDA's on Scat tall manifolds. Don't remember venturi diameter. Probably 37's. 1-5/8' Phoenix header with Tiger Magnaflow.
You could drive it around like a good running stocker on dual carbs. Or you could put your foot in it and have it scream to 7500. I don't think this motor ever went down the real 1/4 mi. We goofed around at our secret spot, his car vs mine (2276 with 9.3:1, 48's, Denham welded heads 86C) and he was right there on my neck,
my car could go high 12's, I am positive Bryan's car was low to mid 13's
And he drove it every day.
