Driving Hot VWs for 44 Years Strong!

« on: January 27, 2008, 08:57:10 am »

In April of 1997 I entered my own 67 in the Phoenix Bug-O-Rama first burnout contest.  I made the mistake of going first and there were no other show ups to participate.  I had my 2110 frying the tires in 2nd gear until I drove out of the cloud of smoke I created.

Six weeks later I drove this same car aong with Don Bulitta (and his 66) on the 1997 BERG CRUISE. I did it on the same tires, through 109 degree temps in the Nevada desert on the way to Salt Lake City to meet up with Art Thraen and a few others joining us.

Post your burnout shots of your street car doing a burnout.  Let's see what everyone's got!

Driving Hot VWs for 44 Years Strong!

« Reply #7 on: January 28, 2008, 02:43:31 am »

Here is a link to my 67 Bug doing a burnout.  Ocean Street Video taped it 10 years ago and it has been on their site since.

www.oceanstreetvideo.com/bbrnmed.mpg

The second video clip is me going a burnout in the BLUE NEW BEETLE at the spring Phoenix Bug-O-Rama of 1998.  We hosted the NEW BEETLE Tour that year and were allowed to test drive the NEW BEETLES.  I proceeded to line up against a fellow VW enthusiast, do a massive burnout and then put a hole shot on him and beat him.  He was 20 years younger and assured me he was going to beat me.  You never forget some things.  Hope you enjoy both videos.

www.oceanstreetvideo.com/nwbrnmed.mpg

If for some reason these links do not work on this site,  go to www.oceanstreetvideo.com and go to their download section and look for the internet burnout contest.  My two videos are the last two in that section.  The link for the downloads is at the very bottom of the home page for Ocean Street Videos, and is in brackets.  Click on it and follow it to the Internet Burnout Contest information.

Your never too old to have fun with a BUG.

"The Notch",...2180. Nice driver, very comfy. With the IRS rearend, was not the best launchin car.

'66 sunroof beetle. Very clean driver. 2276 street motor, but the box was tight and not much fun on the freeway for long hauls.

Wow!  What a great bunch of burnouts. Nothing like the smell of burning rubber and a sustained 7,000rpm burnout! Great stuff!
