Boyd was the first masterbuilder I ever read about. His shop, and the work he did was the biggest eyeopening experience I have EVER had in the carworld. The difference between laying on the back in the gravel welding up rust holes and him building Chezoom and Cadzilla just showed me where the real car stuff was going on. To me he builds good looking cars, the man had taste. But the chassis and engine/engineering leaves a lot to be desired... I think it was a big mistake of him doing the tv show, as it portays him as a bastard, and that his cars are just thrown together without a real mock up. HotRodding would not be the the big buissnes it is today if it wasent for guys like him pushing the boundaries. He will be sadly missed. My thought go out to this family friends and crew.
Rest in peace Boyd.

maybe he built cars and rod's in heaven.
I remeber me... "Jesus built my hotrod" from Ministry.

My thought to his familiy!

I worked for him about 20 year's ago and did side job,s for him on different time's. he rented robbie gordon's shop across the way from me. he ripped me off 70 hours worth of work and robbie off a bunch more. he cheated share holders off when wheel deal went public. most of the guy's in OC will not work for the guy he has bad rap. but the only thing I can say nice is that he brought the street rod industry where it is today, thinking out of the box. he was a maintance mech at disney land before he got started. and guy's like steve davis, dan fink, and all the boyz from swedan, LIL john butara, are the guy's with the tallent that got him started

Someone wrote this on another forum, I think it about says it all.. :

Boyd Coddington stirred strong emotions because he was of strong opinions himself, and was not a wimp about expressing them. Even though I disagreed with a lot of what he did, he went out and DID THINGS!! The world would be lots better off with more people who do things, not just talk about doing them, or bitch about what others do.

there's a difference between doing thing's and useing people up, the TV show is set up for drama, ever watch OC chopper's same producer. he's shop and the TV show are world's apart. it's the people he hire's that have made him who he is. Told him to his face one day that he was the don king of street rod's. If he's so bitchen why doe's everybody leave and go work some were else. chip foose is a different ball game. Now he build's some of the nicest car's around, and there's alot of talented builder's in the US. and there not useing everyone up.
