Group question - what would you do if you bought Peaches and Scream?
«

I saw in another thread that it sold and may be going to Europe. Clearly it has a load of great parts and killer workmanship, finish, etc. But what would YOU do with it?
Would you preserve it as a snapshot of a period in Cal-Look history even though it is right on the fringe of "tasteful" and not likely to ever come back into style?
or
Would you blow it all apart and rebuild it with a more traditional color and interior materials?
I would be torn. The historian in me would be gutted to tear it apart, but the practical side of me can envision the car in red or blue with a cool 70's style interior. No matter, it isnt mine....but should be interesting to see everyones perspective.

I Wouldn't buy it... It's a piece of Cal-Look history and should be preserved as is... but I didn't like the car when it was new and it hasn't aged well. The amount of work I'd need to put into it so I could drive it... well I might as well start from scratch.

I'd tear into it a little bit. For one thing, I'd re-set the suspension to look like it did in the 80's - traditional cal-look. Not sure what happened to it, but in the pics it looks like (a) the front is up in the air, (b) the rear is down, and (c) there's a short axle trans in it. That's not what I remember seeing when I saw it at the SCS showdown. I'd also swap out the interior for something more current and remove all the lettering.
Finally, I'd sell the chromed fuchs and replace them with polished and detailed ones. Why do people chrome those wheels anyway?

Don't touch this...
This car must stay like this, to my mind...
But please, ask this question to the next owner

It's not Cal Look... It's a show car designed to win points and trophies.
As a piece of VW history, it's interesting, but as an important piece of Cal Look history? No way...
IMHO, of course.

I saw in another thread that it sold and may be going to Europe. But what would YOU do with it?
1. Take a picture of it as it was leaving for Europe.
2. Wave bye-bye to the car.
3. Eventually, process the picture(s) and store away for future archival usage.
4. Go either skateboarding and/or surfing.
5. Crack open a 12oz. vessel of Sierra Nevada Porter (blue label) and proceed to drink said contents of SAE 90wt. gear oil.
6. Call it a day.
Next?

That would be a very cool, different car with a little work. I would get rid of the writing, change the interior and loose a lot of the chrome junk. Then drive it like any other hi-po vw.

well fed's idea is good, but totally backwards then.
but for me i the car looks good and is a callook to some degree, but more a show car. you can't drive a car like that, it has the engine and all, but it would be wrecked if you used it on street and strip. so overdone yes, nice yes, i would sell it and by a different car.

Well, thats the point exactly. For the parts and quality, it was a great deal at $14k....but it isnt exactly pretty by todays standards.

Corn,
You're right but Sum Fun, Lil Snort, etc... were not standards few years ago.
Sum fun, Snoopy, etc... stayed for sale during several months and nobody want them....
Today, theses cars will be sell in few hours.
Fashion trends always comes back.
I'm sure that in next 5 years, P&S will be a fantastic collector (it is for me now) because this car represents the real '80-'90 VW Aircooled spirit.
This car is too "young", that's his own problem....
But the new owner has make a great deal for this piece of history !

we at Einheit 11 agree. This car will be a fantastic collector in near future. it really presents the 80s & 90s callook style. by the way, U cant build a car like P & S for this kind of money the new owner paid for it.......and be sure...one day the 80s & 90s style will return................

Black would be a good start. Then, the long and tedious task of dechroming to return the car back to it's factory glory. Mainly the undercarriage.

I'm so glad there are people with respect for history amongst us, even recent history.
My world is not ready for that car yet, but it isnt har to imagine that things will have changed in 10 years... I just hope the car doesn't change.
And the bit about show cars and cal-lookers... thats a mine field we will wisely walk around...

Well for me I roled into Old Speed one day and saw the car there and couldn't believe my eyes I was stoked to see it since I remember going to the shows in the days when it was fresh and I thought it was cool then and now. It is what it is some like it some don't that car has a personality all it's own I think it's great. I also think it aged well. I wouldn't build a car like that but I think Peaches and Scream is cool if not just for the memories it cojurs in me for the detail and pin striping and nostalgia. Anyhoot thats my take on it. Jason

Don't touch it! Like it or not, this car is a great piece of California Look history.
I am really surprised at some of the comments. If the car gets repainted/changed now, most enthusiasts will see this as a mistake in 15-20 years.
Think about it... Twenty years ago, nobody was interested in '70s Gassers, because their style and paint schemes were not trendy anymore. Thankfully, cars like the Race Shop Ghia, Lil' Snort, etc. have not been heavily modified/cut/repainted/changed into nameless bracket cars.
Sure, some aspects of Peaches of Scream look outdated today (especially the upholstery); but in 15-20 years, you can bet we'll be glad this car has not changed.
History tends to repeat itself.

I think your taking some of the comments to seriously there Stephan.
The people who would change it, probably wouldn't buy it anyway. And the folks that would buy it, would probably leave it as is. I just like stirring the pot.
