not to hijack the post Zach but how would you fix the door pilars from doors that have been sprung??? the rain gutters and the metal near is bent over and someone bent it back but the doors work for shit now.  The car is totally striped down right now and I will try to get pix up soon if you think they will help.  thanks

I'm no body man, I don't know! I might be able to give you my opinion with a picture or two, but it's just that- an opinion!

Finally started working (welding) on the car again, should have pics up soon. Plan is to get it to the bodyshop on Thursday (crossing fingers!!)

Got the trunk section replaced with one from a '64 (6 volt). Found out that piece is one year only like the rest of the damn car!! Can't run the proper '67 fuse box with it, so I welded it up and we'll run a modern style fuse box under the rear seat with plug in style fuses. A lot less wiring heading up to the front of the car this way for a nice, clean look under the bonnet. It's held in by 126 (+/-) spot welds, and a real bitch to replace!! Came out very well though, much better than looking at the magnets of two 6x9's when you look in the trunk!! Also fixed the spring perches for the front hood, the decklid mounts, a couple fender nuts, and it seems like a thousand other little things. NEVER turn a car upside down, you'll find so much more work to do! You've been warned!!!

I had AssHull pick up a 914 gauge pod so we could mark out the proper placement of the gauges on the dash. When he brought it up I knew immediately that almost all the work we previously did to the dash should be cut out and replaced with the proper piece Roll Eyes So we got on it. I am VERY pleased with the outcome though. The gauges fit perfectly with the little rubber seals in place and everything- just like it came that way. There will be a bit more body work needed on the dash, too much cutting, welding, grinding, and then cutting, welding, grinding some more. Also drilled the dash for a left hand ignition since AssHull is a southpaw Wink

thought you were looking for a fuel and temp gauge for a 914?
We are, but apparently they are rarer than hen's teeth. This will suffice for now until we locate the Combi gauge that we really want.

So the fuel gauges are easy to find and the temp gauges are easy to find. Still can't find a combi gauge in the price range that I'm wanting to spend. Well turns out the only difference between a fuel or a temp gauge and the combi gauge is that the combi gauge has both dials. The casing and everything are pretty much the same. Even the dials are the same. So I just found a temp gauge and simply pulled the dial out of it and added it to the fuel gauge that I already had. Presto...Combi gauge!!   Grin

It's not exactly the same. The actual combi gauge has a couple extra warning lights but it serves the purpose that I wanted. It means I have an extra casing now and two extra panels for the back of it but total invested in the gauge is $45 versus the $300+ I found online.

THANK YOU!! It really helps keep me going!!

Got the Hooky's panels re-inforced, fitted and tacked in late last night. Copper color is weld thru primer. Plan is to hang the doors tonight and make the neccessary adjustments before welding them completely in. And we decided to perform one more operation on the poor dash! Stay tuned!

I totally agree. It makes for a real clean look but yes, I'm going to have a full carpet (and headliner) setup. Still don't know what color yet though.  Waiting till the body gets painted before making a final decision.  Huh

Metal work on the body is finished. Grafted in a dash section from a '72 911 to mount a VDO clock from the same model, filling in the void in the center of the dash. The tach is a loaner until we find the appropriate version, as is the 911 combination gauge until we locate a clock. I'm pretty damn happy with the outcome thus far Smiley

Are you still interested in the rear window section/firewall? I've still got it, I just recently got back online after my pc caught a wicked virus- that's why I was missing in action. Let me know.

Etch prime is supposed to happen tomorrow Smiley I still have to drill a couple holes in the dash for the emergency flashers and a power outlet, and weld the heat shield back on to the rear apron... and make it removeable. Other than that, the body is out of my hands and I couldn't be happier Smiley Whilst the body is getting worked over the real fun will start- 1915 IDA motor Grin

Why are they all such flakes?? Huffing too much clear coat? I only went with this guy because he is a friend of mine, and his shop is a few doors down from where I work, so I can be there every day to make sure they aren't fucking anything up! Wink

I'm all to familiar with body shop limbo. With both my Bug and my Camaro it was took almsot exaclty twice as long as estimated and cost twice as much. Angry  Last week, I had the doors, decklid and rear seat backs from my Thing repainted. The were done in a very timely fashion and the price was right on, but when I went to pick them up, the were the wrong color! They were supposed to have been done (again) yesterday but I havn't heard anyting yet.
