I've gotta say, one of my favorite features on this car is the twin rocker style dome lights. At night with the sunroof open and both lights on, the interior just GLOWS

That was also the most fun part of the car to wire up, makes me want to do that to my car as well.

And the finished seats I added some lumbar to the backrest inserts. Quite comfy

Thanks guys!!! The car came out a million times better than we would have ever thought. From a simple concept, to a very special build, in my opinion.

Black knobs for the pop outs came from... err, I forget! I called Wolfsburg West, they didn't stock them but led me to another company in SoCal that did. They came bleach white, but I dyed them black to match

I just got back yesterday from a trip to Portland and Seattle, got a nice package in from Danny Gabbard, and the fanshroud back from paint! I just checked on the cabrio decklid, it will be done tomorrow

AssHull will be in town this weekend, I might even let him drive it around

Yep, that's what I did, after I dyed my headliner flat black... also dyed the sun visors. Got lucky an Bill & Steve's had the black welting for the rear ¼ windows and the pull straps on the b-pillars (black).

I dyed the visors & sunroof plastics light grey to match the headliner. The bright white those pieces come in is horrible.

FYI, the pinch welt that is used around the quarter windows is common stock in any upholstery shop

Just fired it up! Oil cooler or seals are leaking I'm really stoked to take it apart again!

It's just a 1915cc, Engle 120x1.25, 40x35.5 044's, 8.8:1, 1 1/2" merge with 2 1/4" muffler. "Reliable street transportation" we call it

Thats why you Break it in on the stand, easy to fix the small issues.....

REALLY diggin' the look of that engine, Zach. Only thing I'd change would be the cam to a Engle 125, but I'm sure that the 120 will work out just fine. Hope that you're able to work out the engine stuff easily.

to be honest i'd expected a more oldschool engine but fair enough, still looks very decent
the shroud came out nice? i still need to grind, sand and paint mine but it's a cool mod!!

and did you weld up the large breather hole on the right side of the porsche filler? i'd love to run one too but i'm afraid it won't clear my Tayco linkage and 1/2" shorter manifolds.

once you get it all up and running you still owe us a few decent shots

that engine looks really clean and simple. Maybe I´m wrong but the upper pulley looks quite small in diameter. Is it a Porsche 356 generator pulley?

Thanks, Mark! I chose the 120 for more torque. The 1915 that was in there has an FK8 (similar to the 125) and was very very cammy. I'm hoping the 120 will produce a more linear powerband, with more torque down low.

Except for the alternator, I think it's pretty "old school" looking. I would have prefered a generator myself, but AssHull already had a perfectly good alternator, so in it went. And with all of the electrical nonsense in this car, an alternator probably isn't a bad idea, anyway

The shroud was a MASSIVE amount of work to say the least. There were times when I thought I was going to have to ditch it for a Taiwan 36hp doghouse. Thankfully, it finally worked out.  All of the black tin was powdercoated semi-flat, but I had the fanshroud body worked and painted a gunmetal grey to match the wheels. Also gives the engine a bit of a Porsche 356SC look

I'm thinking the large breather hole will get a small gauze type filter, the engine NEEDS to be vented to the outside air! I did have to clearance the Berg linkage for the breather, it just bearly fits.

Thanks Tobi! Yes, it is. Together with the Berg Equalizer (slightly larger than stock), the fan is REALLY moving some air! Get your hand anywhere near it while it's running and it will try and suck it in!

Cylinders weren't sealing. I was less than enthusiastic about tearing the motor down, so AssHull and Sling stayed late last night and fixed it.

AssHull worked all day yesterday and got the car buttoned up, I snapped a few pictures right before he packed it up and drove it to Edwards Air Force Base in California... about 7-8 hours away

Everything was going fine until Barstow when the inner part of the Porsche pulley started to spin on it's hub, and then the belt snapped

It's an older Kymco 1 1/2" with a 2 1/4" Dynomax by Tiger at A-1.

This motor is waaayy more driveable than the old motor (and it hasn't even been jetted properly yet), feels almost as fast, still revs up to 7k easily
