I would like to find out, or know about Kris Klingaman's bug (year,engine,pic's).Was it ever featured in magazines?And is Kris still around?The only thing I know is, that the car now is in Japan.

It was featured twice in Hot VWs - once as part of a double feature with Scott Bakkens '67, both on Empi 8's as fast street cars, and again as a race car.
It's one of my favourite cars of all time - I think it just looks right.

I have never really looked much at this car before and only saw side shots so presumed it was a 67. I think its got to be the best late model ever! What year was it actually?
The Lucas indicators are in such a weird place on the first couple of pics!
Also it looks so right on the wide 5 DDS pie pans! I like late cars with wide 5 shame VW didnt keep Wide 5 throughout!

I've got a feeling it's a '68, looking at the fuel filler flap. I think '69 had a cable release and I know 1970 did.

wheels are mitchell alu with 4x15 at front wit racemaster 22-in drag racing tires and 6x15-in with 7x26-in firestone slicks |

Ah, really you've got a '69! My '68 was Sept '67-built and that didn't have the cable release. It did have the bonnet release cable under the dash like early cars though! Ayway, back on topic... I think I remember reading that Kris used a small engine - 1968cc or something similar! |

Yes it's a "68",in street-version it has the 68 rearlights & in race-trim are these from a 67 model.
Anyway.I like both versions. |

That car was surely one of "inspirational" cars I remember as a kid.
What amazed me was how it ran so freaking fast with such a small motor.
Look at those gear ratios.. and a 4.86 r/p.. It must have been turning over 9,000rpm across the finish line...
Amazing, still to this day...

It was just sold to ERCO´s Erick Ballard, He got the declid and the rear fender hanging from the roof, on his shop.
Maybe it was a diferent car, just belonging to the same guy.
