Sorry to go a little off topic, but I am an architect and these basic cal-look rules got me into it for real because they are present not only in my hobby, but first in my professional life.

member of the Berlin Bauhaus... actually a German of Dutch descent.
But American? Only decent American architect ever was Frank Lloyd Wright.

Well, he moved to US in 1937, coz Nazis weren't interested (to say the least) in that kind of architecture. Since then he designed a lot of famous buildings in US (including Illinois Institute of Technology and 860-880 Lake shore Drive Appartments in Chicago, Seagram Buliding in NYC...
In 1944 he bacame American citizen. He was awarded with Presidential Medal of Freedom by JFK in 1963

Maybe it's offtopic, but that question is almost obvious to me...
When I first heard about these rules concerning the VW world, I thought it was very connected with architecture. Is there any real link? I mean is it possible, that a person who adopted these rules to VWs was in any way connected with architecture?
