Time to start on the fire wall, not my favorite job but it has to be done. The fire wall will sit 6cm higher as original, so I cut 6cm of the top. Because of the innerwings I have to make it wider as well We're getting there. Paul.

To follow the rules while building my cage I had to place the seats first. First I slammed the original seatframe. After that I mounted the 914 frame on top. Next step was placing the seat. Now the 914 and original frame can move foreward to have enough access to the rearseat. Paul.

Both seats are in. doesn't look like much. But this has cost me several hours. The original frames are slammed, narrowed, shortened and placed in a differend angle. just for the eye, I closed the side of the frames. Paul.

I've bin doing small stuff while I'm waiting for the cage material to come in. Today I have bin modeling the door gab. Due to an accident in the past, the door didn't line up like I want it to do. Start up the grinder again. After some hammering. Paul.

Started on the cage today. With these holes I can lower the cage a bid and weld the up side. Bending the bends in the wright position and keeping it straight is a PITA. Did you see my special cupper angle measure tool Paul.

Heres how I did my first hoop. First I located the center of the tube lenght, and then I tacked on a piece of flat stock steel. It was about 200 mm long and would end up sticking out pointing forward in the car, if I left it on. To this piece I taped a spirit level, so every time I placed the tube in the bender I keept an eye on the spirit level and the hoop came out completely flat . Something else that helped a novice like me was that before I made the first bend I punced marks ever 500mm, starting on the center of the tube. Then I could write down the distance from the nearest mark to a given point on the tube bender, and repeat it for the other side. Made it pretty easy. Good luck!

De first hoop is in. I made the connection to the gearbox mount with tape, this way I can measure the angle I need. Paul.

DAMN, why didn't I notice this before. After checking the cage measurements, I found out that the gearbox wasn't in line with the middle of the car. So time to start over again. (attempt nr. 3) Paul.

Gearbox is in again. It is further inwards so I had to shorten the cage and framehorns. Paul.

Because of the higher mounted engine and gearbox, the luggage compartment had to be raised as well. This means that is had to be widened. I wanted to use a donor piece from 1954. Now I found out that even this part of '54 sheet metal is different to a '56 piece. But with a little help of a hammer and knee it starting to fit. Paul.

The R&P was only temp tacked in place when the body was on. Back then I had to ditch the sway bar. Today I welded the R&P brackets in its final place, made new brackets for the sway bar, mounted the sway bar and R&P and made brackets to mount the body to the chassis. Paul.

Not much progress lately. I am supporting son's football matches more than working on the beetle. Made 2 holes to weld the cage mounting points in. Dropped the body back on the pan and trial fitted the tubes that go to the gearbox. When these tubes fit properly I can start on the shock mounts. Paul.

Very small update. Made some extra room for the gearbox by inverting the bent. Trying it look original Paul.
