That would assume.... DV smoked wacky tobacy back then. And if DV did, that meant GA, RF, MT, JH, JE and many others did as well. Figure that one out....

btw, what engine is in it now? it looks like good fun in all the video's. and does the front need to come down just a little, or is that just my perception comparing it to the pics in KS's book?

NO the front end is perfect, the rear torsion bars may be a little weaker with age......
Remember that CAL LOOK is not front down in the ground.... it is front down giving car a rake look, the current cal lookers with the front end in the ground are more resto cal height, a little (dare i say it) like those that use narrowed front beams, this wasnt done in the day on street cars but only race cars "Gassers

Depends on which era too... in the 80s the cars were a little closer to the ground. My '67 had a headlight height of 16.5" to 17" depending on which police officer was doing the measuring ... and I had the stack of tickets to prove it.

I guess I missed the memo and broke the rules.
Back in 1974 my car was super low in front and decambered about 2" in the rear... I thought it was cool at the time, and so did many others.

you are right on point in saying that the front doesn't need to dig a hole. so it is the backend that needs adjusting then. the car looks good anyway.
so i assume it is the 1641 with 42DCNFs that Doug hated so much that is in the car now huh?

That Must Be Me
I dont See $50,000 to $100,000 + VW Trailer Queens Technology? I call that Waste of Good Money
The Original VW Cal Look that Started it all Was Clean,Fast,Simple, and Affordable!!
I personally Think If Prices for the Cars and Parts had not Sky Rocketed like it Did and continues to, There would be alot more People involved in VW's You would think that the wheel companys could sell there Repops for alot less since they are mass prodeuced In 1967 Original BRM's, 5 Spokes, and 8 Spokes sold for $49.95 each, Deano and Hurst Shifters were $39.95, Dont get me Wrong I know The Original's are Worth Way More Then they were in 1967 but how can anyone Justify the Price? NOS Brm's 1967 $49.95 X 4 =$199.80 to NOS BRM's 2009 $14,000.00 for a set Of 4 even Repops cost about $800.00 a set the wheel Market has Repoped 50,000 + times more wheels then there were Originals even made. just my 2 cents cuz I spent the rest..

Agreed to a certain extent. I agree repops should be cheaper since they are not the real deal but inflation assures things wont always be at 1967 prices. Besides $800.00 for a set of repop BRM's still gives most a chance to own a timeless wheel for a fraction of the cost of a Original one.

Shubee, what are you talking about? Most VW enthusiasts could not afford BRMs in the '60s because they were expensive. California's Minimum Wage was $1.35 an hour in 1966; it's $7.25 today.
Also, we should thank the people who spend $50 or $100K in their VWs. Like it or not, it made Nick's parking lot pretty interesting last June.

The cars you stared with were also only ten or 20 years old, and weren't in need of a full body off re$to.
