i know that there's a lot of people that run their hot vw engines with ida's using the stock fuel lines and stock fuel pump. i'd like to do the same, so perhaps i need to change plans?

just a quickie, how far should this fitting go in?

i've got it half way in, aligned in the right direction, but it will need lots and lots of strength to go in further.

This is also my concern as I´m not familiar with US tapered threads. I ended up with sealing the thread with Loctite sealer and tightening it only with small strength. I don´t want to crack my mag case  Shocked

Best to be careful here. Those are tapered pipe threads. If you run it in too far (i.e. use excessive force) you'll crack the case.
I personally use a teflon pipe thread sealant, and get it just where it snugs up and the hose would be @ 8:00

I don't like using Loctite on pipe thread fittings.

that's where mine is right now (@ 8:00)
but now some of the thread is still exposed, but that's ok, i guess?

so, i'll get it out, get some teflon pipe thread sealant and stick it back in? where do i get that sealant, any DIY store?

Any hardware store. Just be carefull since the slippery tape/ sealant will make you lose
some of the "feel" when tightening.

They Also make Teflon sealant in a tube it works much better then teflon tape because you dont get the stringy stuff coming loose inside and you dont get the feeling  of not being tight enough

That's a conical thread, that's why it becomes harder to tighten  Wink

I don't prefer tape, as it ads to the O.D. of the fitting, making it easier to crack the port.  I prefer the liquid teflon sealant as well, or you can use the Loctite Hydraulic Thread Sealant...........made to seal threads.  LOCTITE # 54550 .............Europe may use a different part number.   Roll Eyes
