And its for sale!!  http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=502688  a bargain at $10500

Hey there Lids, thanks for posting my car and link to the for sale ad.  I still have the car and I think I am going to take it out and run it again at Sacramento.  I think it is a really cool car and I hate to get rid of it but I want to start up my little vw exhaust business again.  I am going to try and get some more pics of the car tomorrow.  Thanks again.

Jeff

From the looks of the pony tail, it looks as if it was Ron Fleming behind the wheel on this occasion…

Ok, ok, it was a background in our old DFL forum. But let's say it this way: It was never published before outside Germany!  Grin  Grin  Cheesy

No, that's Greg Aronson driving (nearly everyone had ponytails back then!). Very early photo of Tar Babe at OCIR Bug-In staging lanes. You can see Jim Holmes standing in front of the car (looking away), and Mike Mahaffey looking at car. Awesome photo.

Hi Dean,

I asked my friend (who actually is a bit older – older then Sarge  Wink ) what year he attended the Bug-Ins and he couldn't remember. Luckily his wife knew it. She said they have been there in october '70 and '71. That must be Bug-In #7 and #5, correct? And of course he forgot which picture has been taken at what year. Can you tell which year this picture is?

When I was talking to him he asked me if he gave me the color pictures, too. I told him that he gave me just color pictures. He replied that he did b/w pictures as well and that he has a film also.  Shocked A super 8, it must be somewhere. I told him that I will help him finding it. Puhh, can't believe it. He never said anything about a film before. For him it's not important, it's just something he experienced over 30 years ago...
Cheers,

Georg

I would say that photo was taken at the October 1972 Bug-In, whichever that one was (#?). If I look closely at this photo, it would appear that at this stage in Tar Babe's life, it still had raw aluminum interior panels, before they were red-on-black marble-anodized by George Industries. I can't recall that this moment what month Tar Babe was featued in Hot VWs.... That would jog my memory, as when it this photo was taken, because the panels were no anodized yet when Jere shot it. Help?

A couple of points that you can look at to tell the age of Tar Babe. One, does it have wheelie bars? Does it have ALL the four red BRM caps? Does it say "Auto Haus" on the side of the hood or Race Shop? M&H tires were first, then Firestones.... Of course, DDS spindle-mount front wheels or BRMs? Fleming & Hunsaker on the door window edge. Quick-shift stock shifter w/t-handle or DDS? DDS linkage or Empi cross-bar? Red interior panels....
