It was May 12, 1971 that I purchased my green car. It was white at the time. Change to green in 1974 or 5.  I had wrecked my 61 when a woman cut in front of me and took off the front end. I found my 64 at a used car dealership in Santa Ana, California. It is still there by the way, cornor of Main and Warner streets. Cost $600.  In the glove box was all the paper work of when it was first brought into the country and the dealership it was first sold at. It was imported through Competition Motors and sold at Lakewood Motors.  I still have all the papers and owners manual from when it was new. For 39 years it has been a work in progress and thanks to everyone for their support and help.   Dave Rhoads

Congratulations to one of the few people that have owned their Cal-Look car longer than I... you've got me by about 6 years ;-)

So on May 12, 1971 did you think you'd have this car for that long?

Wishing you many more years in your '64!

39 years? Well, that makes the 18 years my '67 and I have enjoyed so far seem like nothing!  The cool thing is when you got it the car was only 7 years old, and... let's not forget...Slow!

Yes it was slow and when I purchased the car it had 43,000 miles on it.  I drove the little 40hp another 40,000 till the crank broke. I drove the car everywhere. Only took maybe a year to put the second 40 on it. Never thought I would have the car this long but it was what I considered my first car. It just took the place of the 61 that was totaled. I would still have the 61 if it was not totaled. Dave Rhoads

Thanks for building or ''evolving'' the car over all those years Dave.
I first saw the car at beetle bash '96 when you bought it over and it got me hooked on all things cal-look.
To me that car IS cal-look!

congrats dave..!!  although i havent seen your coverage and cant pull anything worthy up online i can still remember your car being painted by that "certain someone" many years ago...and always loved the dash/i luv gages..!!  the new repaint looks awesome as well. you are all but a few of us still remaining and good to see your love for the hobby still going after all the many years gone by. not many can make the claim that they have gone 12's with a "street" vw..!! your longtime pal, dyno don
