Check Out Doug Misches hair with the Yellow ghia. I bet he wishes he still had that flowing on the Harley. Those fine young ladies are probably grandmas now Grin

I think it's interesting to note that there were no Ghias in DKP I.  There were a couple of Type II's and Type III's, but no Ghias.  I don't recall anyone even trying to join that drove one.

My guess is that it was a money thing back then...hard enough to scrape the money up for a sedan.  Personaly, I never cared for them much...that was until Bob Chapman (DRF) built his convertable Ghia with the chopped windshield and IDA motor...changed my view of things completly!

Good one, Fabs!  That's the Hot Rod magazine shot from 1971.  Rick Meisner's bus, then me and the 63, Dave Velton, Zavala, Mike Mahaffey, Doug Gordon, Ron Fleming, Craig Foster, Greg Aronson, Rick Winter...the last two guys, I'm not sure about though.   Cool

That's a "touchy" question to answer.  No one who was a member of DKP I was, to the best of my knowledge, involved with DKP II.  I never knew about DKP II...seemed like we were all anxious to go our seperate ways and forget about VW's.  That's when I got involved with the sandrail thing...until 1998 when Ron Fleming began telling me I needed to come to the VW Classic (mainly to see him judge the bikini contest  Cool).  I spent the 1999 Classic alongside of Scott Bakken (he was in Carlos' ride) and got to thinking about the old times on the street...plus there were guys that actually had DKP III stickers in their windows!  The rest is history.  So far, I'm the only old coot with a completed car...Mike Johnston, Mike Mahaffey, Dennis DeMarco and Mike Larsen are all in the works and of course Dean Kirsten keeps threatning to build "something!"  Roll Eyes Grin
