Hi,
Building a UK spec 67 1500 (1915cc really). As it's the 1500 it has discs and is 4 bolt. I have bought and detailed some Pedrini wheels and now need to clad the rears (145 at the front).
I know 205/65 will fit, but has anybody squeezed 205/70 or 215/65 into late model arches on any 914 alloy (same offset)?... does it look silly? i want fat but i don't want bulging.

The Pedrinis are 5,5" wide right? If so a 205 tire looks spot on in my eyes. Fat without to much bulging (but a little).
A 205/70 will not bulge more than a 205/65, if anything it will bulge less because its higher. 215/65 is cool on 5,5 rims too, but if you are running the original long axles you have to consider fender clearance.
I guess Porsche rims have a nice offset so I think all these tires will work, at least if you have original fenders. Most repro fenders are a bit narrow compared to originals.
I would go with the 205/70 because a 215 tire is a little wide for the rim and a 205/65 is a bit on low side. But that's a matter of taste..
Edit: Considering clearance in late model (long axle) arches. A friend of mine has a 67 with 205/70 on MWS BRM's. Long axles and orig fenders. It's a tight fit, but it works. The Pedrinis should have better offset so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Hi Paul,
I have Pedrini wheels with 205/65 tires. I would go for the 205/70 or 215/70 for a fat lip.

Ronal wheels 5,5" et25 205/70 with repro fenders... fits perfect!

205/70 is a good choice. 215/65's look better on a 6-7" rim.

Don't forget that the IGP wings are such poor quality that the one side is over an inch narrower than the other. I thought that my car wasn't quite square but I've seen several other cars with the same poor tyre gap.

It was close to the springplate, but to be honest,I didn't drive with it on, I just had a wheel lying around and thought i'd try it  |

Thanks Kalle, I'm really pleased with it! I gave it some disc brakes and drop spindles, so it's a smooth comfy everyday ride. It also has an Eber for those chilly mornings.. |

I'm on the hunt for 205/70's. look like the ones. I'll post up before on stock/ after on 205 wrapped Pedrinis when fitted up.

i will ignore the front rims, but that exhaust... what is that? i have never seen a tube run like that. should be mess restrictive, but that thing gets hot.

Yeah, it's a copy of a pipe from a DKP car from a picture in "the vw exchange manual" i forget what one. Using turbo Thomas bits. The guy at work who made it for me did the end turn down and i haven't had a chance to take it off and cut it back to near the rear wheel where it should be. It needs to be modified a bit as well to thread a traction bar in there.
Work in progress.... and funny enough it does not run hot.. no rainbow marks at all!

well i guess it is less restricktive as a turbo muffler without the sharp bent. it just caught my eye. |
