yeah it is mate changed a couple of bits on it since these pics were taken just enjoying driving it at the mo its a fantastic car. hope alexs is good seen the black bitch has posted some resectable time at the pod! He's weel chuffed pulled a couple of mid 14's i think. He's sure there a 13 in there

I didn't like the center caps that came with the 5 spokes (plastic bullets). They were sand-cast by a friend (Geoff Peterson) in the club and then another club member cleaned them up on a lathe for me. The cast was taken off a sprint star cap.

Nice looking car. Just curious, what's the deal with the driver's window down at the race? Does your local track allow that? We always have to run with the windows up, even when it feels like 120 degrees out!

We always have to run with the windows up, even when it feels like 120 degrees out! Thanks, The window is up - I guess I cleaned it really well for the show weekend. Normally it covered in finger prints. At Mission on street legal nights they let you get away with jeans and a t-shirt, you have to have a helmet for convertibles and cloth sunroofs. When we started going to the track you had to wear longs sleeves and jeans, but I think they let up on the regulation when it got hot.

The old 63... I had such a hardon for this car. Fuchs and a 2 liter would have made it. Who would have thought that roach from Oakland (still get chills when I think about what that neighborhood looked like) would have really been such a nice piece under the grime.

I finally got mine on the road this summer, still got a few details to change though. It runs a 2110, with 40 DRLAs, to try to get reasonable fuel economy so I can drive it to some European shows next year, its not 'run in' yet so I don't know how much power it has but it is good fun to drive, even though I am going easy on it. Any thoughts on the stance, I am not sure whether the back needs to come down a touch or if I need fatter tyres, I have 165s at the moment. Can anyone reccommend a bigger tyre size that won't stick out of the arches with long axles

Car looks great! Maybe a 185 or 195 on the rear. I'm starting to think the 205s and up are too large.
What's the story on the mufflers? Look like modern QPs...?

I think I ran tall 195's on long axles OK but that was a while back so don't blame me when you're rolling your wings/fenders out! We're putting 205's on a late car and will be using short axles as whatever it was I had was close. The last tyre I ran on it was a 185/65 and they didn't look right in the arch which I think is the problem with yours, more tyre height wise would be better probably. Nice car.

That's a god point, whatever it was I had before the 185/65's made the car lifeless with the stock motor it had which is why we put the 65's on but a 195/70 would probably be OK, a 205 is maybe too much though?

165 at the rear is a typical old school combo, but I also prefer when the wheelarches are 'filled'. For me, the ideal size at the back with long axles is 185/80/15. It's tall, not too wide, and looks a bit 'classier' than a 205/70/15. The thread patterns are usually older designs, so they suit a cal-look car better than the more modern /70 or /65 profiles. Whatever you do, don't lower the back

Playing around with a 'tyre size calculator' a 195/65 or 185/70 are close to the diameter of the 165 so I could get a fatter look without altering the gearing. A 185/80 is 1.2 inches larger in diameter and according to the calculator would 'affect my speedo by 5%' so I presume it would also affect the gearing similarly. I think I may experiment with some scrap tyres to see how they look. Yvre, I love the look of the car you posted, is it yours? Javabug, the mufflers are stainless steel, I bought them from VWSpeedshop in the UK, they are only available as a kit which isn't a bad thing as I could weld them to get a close fit to the bodywork and also make them work with the merged header I have Thanks for the help and interest

Thanks. Jamboree was a good weekend, it was the cars first long run, which was fun in itself and even though it wasn't finished I put it in the show n shine and got 3rd I am going to Ultra 's Bug Boogie tomorrow so I'll do a bit of tyre research there Your '58 looked so right, I can't believe you sold it, what have you planned next.

Here is mine. 66 deluxe restored 10 years ago and just swapt some engines and drove it! VDO period gauge setup, geniune 4,5 and deep 6 inch fuchs alloys, 1914cc engine (still want to put italian IDA's on it), Convertable decklid, GTV steeringwheel was a weddinggift from my wife!

awesome! i love the way the front wheel is not tucked in at all and it looks so spot on!
is that because of the offset of the torque thrusts or do you run dropped spindles without having narrowed the beam?
