Interesting, Not cheap, but interesting. Developed for Cobra guys who want the look of four 48IDAs but all the convenience of EFI...

i suspect they are in the carb bodies, these look like new carb bodies that have the FI all routed into them. SO you can't see it.

Its about damn time!!! All you gotta do is hide the wires and THOSE LOOK LIKE IDAS!!!! Thats FI that even I would run!!!
So about $6k for the V8 set up, figure about half that for a VW... not cheap, but what is these days?!

It is a nice looking setup. I would run it if I decided to ever to FI.

I would love to have this setup on my car. The website even states that there is a VW application. I wonder if this efi has the IDA bark though

i think it says 6K could be for the complete system, including ignition etc etc etc
maybe if we just buy the throttle bodies alone could be much cheaper...
technically they should be cheaper to make than carbs right? no?

I can see the advantages of running EFI. I can also see the advantages of running a small modern car that gets 45 mpg. I wouldn't do either..
Kidding aside, EFI is nice, but making it look like IDAs doesn't really appeal to me. A bit like having a cover that looks like an old Hemi on top of your modern multi-valve V8..
Of course it makes the engine bay of a show car look cool and traditional, but there is something about the look of those (real) IDAs that says something about the car and the owner. And the first words that come to mind isn't "fuel economy" or "driveability".
Guess it's just me that's stuck in the past and love all things mechanical and traditional.

That's a neat idea. I wonder if (and expect that) they are 48mm bore.
My CB 48's are a lot of air to deal with right off idle for a street engine, or at least it has been a tuning challenge for me and my truck. If that were smaller bore, affordable, and injector flexible (I assume it is), then I would think it would be great.

But you've "only" got a 2110, right? And you are dealing with a heavy T-2. My guess it that they would work well on your average 2.3 beetle.

I think you are missing the point. The mazda ones have a fuel rail, so look like EFI, but these ones have the fuel rail inside the float bowl. Apart from the wiring they look like stock IDA's!!!! All the benefits of EFI but with the old school looks of twin IDA's, this was similar to an idea i had for my engine.
I was going to use the IDA as a throttle body, and have my DDS manifolds tapped for injectors on the inside near the fan shroud. Run a dummy fuel line and voilà old school looks, modern performance.

I emailed last night, and got a few questions answered this morning
Zach,
Our VW/Porsche applications are sold as 'retro-fit' kits, as we do not have a direct hassle free
bolton style kit available. Basically you would replace your existing 48IDAs with our throttle
bodies, and use your existing linkage and bracketry (not limited to the actual arms on the
throttle bodies themselves) to ensure smooth operation. Our system is dependent on a MAP signal,
and each intake runner will need a vaccum provision leading to a common plenum/log. The ECU with
built in MAP sensor, will then draw signal from that log. Fueling the system is straightforward
although you will need to upgrade to a high pressure system and add a return line if you have not
one available.
The main concern is that at this point, we do not have a library of base tunes established for
our VW market as it is not very common to us at this venture. Typically our tunes are 95% there
and just require some fine tuning. You will have to get your vehicle setup on a dyno in these
regards. The software is very user friendly, and we ship with a tuning manual to help you along.
If you run into trouble, you can always call us on tech support as we are more than happy to help.
Pricing will be based on individual needs for this style of systems. Thanks!
Regards,
Tom Hank

Throttle bodies that look like IDAs???
Why go to the trouble of making something look other than what it is??
Maybe you guys also like those fibreglass front end kits with the Rolls Royce grill?
Take your heads out of the sand (or maybe your arse) ... just like a small group of innovators did back in the '60s... they fitted IDAs, went to the drag strip and raced the V8 crowd
History was made
If those same innovators had been restricted to using parts deemed acceptable by the yet to be born self-appointed-style-police, the whole VW performance scene might never have happened
Embrace something new
Make it work to your advantage
Form follows function.... if it actually works, history proves people will
eventually
accept whatever gets the job done as being cool (as if that matters)

I'd use 'em if I thought they offered an advantage over other TBs but can't see any reason why I should pay extra for the disguise (hair shirt)!
TBH I prefer my TBs to
look

Now you're getting me mixed up with that particularly perverted fundamentalist right wing splinter group offshoot of the original self-appointed-style-police
Whatever floats your boat is fine by me. It's a sad state of affairs hearing people would only consider running injection if it looked
exactly
like an IDA motor
The automotive equivalent of wearing a toupé...?
