Blue.  As for the specific color, it's just something they mixed up and I liked.

I'm watching the YouTube live stream - Steve Dalton has just run a 10.40 at 137mph. Looked stout!

We only get one shot today so it was a very conservative setup.  Didn't want a wheels up lane change and have to abort the pass.  Smiley

Sensible! Frieburger was very complementary too. I was lucky that I turned the TV on, put YouTube on and you were there within 15 minutes!

Thanks for the photos Jo. I guess you're free to follow the route and support Steve now. How's Richie and how's the car - what actually happened and how bad is it?

Steve: I never thougt I would say this... please stop those insane "too-much-clutch" wheelies and instead focus on a 9 sec run  Smiley Your last launch looked a lot better but it sounded like you missed 2nd?

And Richie... whats up with the beard  Cheesy

Keep on with the good work guys!

Hi all,

been a good week watching/helping etc, well compared to not being here at all but still sucks to just be a spectator Sad.
Still finding it hard to even look at pics of the car right now hence why i haven't put any up myself, they are all over net to see if you really need to but from middle of back wheel area backwards its destroyed, not looked at engine yet but hoping that has survived.

Kalle, Steves car just has cable clutch with no management at all and a double disc so we are trying to get it to leave using wheel speed & boost as the power restriction in ecu, he only has about 15 1/4 mile passes on it as turbo car so its still work in progress but yesterday we made some changes off data from 1st 3 days and combined with controlled burnout length and different tyre pressure got a 1.40 60ft but then yes he did miss 2nd gear. Hopefully today it will all come together, he should get enough track time for about 3 passes if needed

Hi Richie, good to hear from you. So sorry about the car, I saw a picture yesterday and I was shocked by the damage, but it could have been so much worse. It does look salvageable, and I'm sure once it's stripped down it won't look so bad. I wish the car was closer as I'd be more than happy to help.

Final day was a bit of anticlimax, after the drive on thursday went with no problems it rained most of morning then when track opened and Steve got a pass it broke both axles off line and he only had spare CVs, no axles so that was it done.
Was good to see the 5 second drag week finally barrier broken by Tom bailey in the last pass of open class cars with a 5.99@250mph, and also to see the Ascona 1.0 make it after a really hard week of problems and run more 7s and finish 3rd overall, the Swedish Street week corvette of Stefan Gunarsson[not sure if spelling is correct] run 6.72 after overcoming issues earlier in week

I think it sounds cheesy and won't help licking any wounds, but getting there in a beetle 'is' an achievement on its own.

you have to look at what and where you come from. like I said before a street car with 500 hp in a beetle... you can count those on one or two hands worldwide... and the main reason you did this is to prove it can be street worthy and not be a trailerqueen with a license plate. nothing but respect from over here. weel done to both.

Final race report:  What Richie said.  Smiley

I had trouble getting the car to shift into 2nd clean.  Not sure if it was an issue with the clutch itself, cable adjustment, or driver but we just did what we could.  Getting the car to leave well without any clutch management and a D.O.T. tire is definitely a tall order, but the last pass at MIR it went 1.40 60' with the wheels in the air (zero front wheelspeed until 1.63 seconds into the run), just to be thrown out when I couldn't get it into 2nd.  The next pass was back at Virginia Motorsports Park, and on the first pass it kicked out both axles.  The car did break the beams though, so I got a default timeslip of 20.000 @ 50.00mph which knocked my average from a 10.44 @ 136 down to a 12.35 @ 119mph.

I played hookey from work today to get myself settled and everything cleaned up, and managed to knock out a clipshow of sorts from the live feed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ctTGBtslLs&t=247s

All in all, it was an awesome trip.  I got to spend an entire week doing nothing but driving around in a hot rod Volkswagen, going racing with my friends.  Hot Rod Drag Week really is the trip of a lifetime, and I've been fortunate to do it twice.

I really want to thank Richie and Jo from RJ Volks Performance for all of their help and support, as well as my navigator/buddy Other Steve for letting me talk him into this again, and also my dad for flying out to join in all the mayhem.

Hey Steve,
Enjoyed watching your runs on the live stream (the second best to being there in person  Sad ) and even Freiberger seems to have a soft spot for your car now.
Breaking the axles on the last day was truly a shitter. I had high expectations for the last day but I'm sure you'll be back at the track soon to get that 9 ;-)
What axles do you run to snap them? With Bus or 930 CV's? Did they break after the splined part? I guess it makes a lot of torque now.

Not sure on Drag Day yet.  Obviously I need to put some axles in it, and I'll probably upgrade while I'm at it.  The bigger issue is the facetime I really need to put in with the family since I abandon them for two weeks to go play with cars!
