Light to Light Its Great Nothing like it but it gets Old Quick when driving for a while pulls real hard threw all gears but is close to redline at top of the 1/4 mile with the close gear box

The best film footage is on the OFFDRC DVD (read club sales pitch), along with a load of other cars which make mine look very pedestrian. But as you ask, a friend pointed me to a youtube clip last week, which must have been taken about 4 years ago, its a rubbish clip and I nearly miss the shift to second and over rev badly so its not the sort of run to advertise in normal circumstances, but the crowd reaction is quite funny, as I'm racing a 2wd Skyline with a load of wiz bang pop under the bonnet at an custom car event. Its funny how there are so many fast AC VW's around these days, yet Jo public is still surprised when a VW wins!
There is another funny part to this storey, as after the racem, two teenage kids came up to me and asked if I just beat "that Skyline", I said yes, and one guy turned to the other and said that's a pint you owe me.

I'm hopeless with dates, but it was the last year that they ran the event at Thorney Island, as I remember looking forward to it the next year, but it never happened, and they moved it to Romsey I think, but there's no track at the new venue.
I remember a nice line up of JG54 cars park off to the left of the start line, but didn't get a chance to have a look round them as I had a few problems to sort out that weekend as I managed to pull an inlet manifold stud from the head early Sat morning so missed a load of racing with a failed attempt at a fix in the day but got it sorted Sat afternoon evening and raced Sunday.
Dave Dinning was there that weekend as well, with his car pre paint and Lee Maynard's 1968cc N/A loan motor and he was one of the fastest cars there I think.
Great show its a shame the racing was dropped when it moved, as its always good to race the Jap and V8 boys.
I think we better get back on topic now!

electronic 009 inside magneto
136hp/5700rpm 185nm/4600rpm (have a look at that flat torque curve).
You have too add the transmission/wheel loss to see the actual numbers (beneath the x axis).
Runs 150km/h all day without overheating, and itīs lots of fun even though it only has 136hp/5700rpm. The low rpm torque makes this engine really driveable, and it still has the power to be fun. To me itīs the perfect combo of fun and reliability. Best engine I ever built!
I know a lot of you think that type 4 is a big NO NO when it comes to cal-look, but I love it

I am personally a huge fan of cal look T4, had one pretty much the same as yours except for :
41 x 34 light port good velocity heads
webcam 163/86B
1700 rockers solid shafts
9.5:1CR
1 5/8 merged
48 IDF
009 Pertronix
128hp 192nm, awesome street engine in almost full weight 1500 beetle, I miss that engine.
In the process of building a 66 or 71/101.6 using Chev pistons and Deutz Cylinders w/ 44 x 36 heads groove sealed, 10:1CR, 45 Dells, Magneto.

DKK Fred,
You will love your motor combo. That is almost the exact combo I ran in my CHOP TOP for a while, with the exception of the cam. I ran an ENGLE 110. It worked perfect. I just freshened up the motor and I am stuffing it in my OVAL WINDOW as a good reliable driver.

Forget what people think. If your name is on the title to the car... then you get to build the car to your specifications. The first rule is; there are no rules. By the way, that Type 4 engine in that beige car is one of the best looking Cal Look power plants I've ever seen.

Thank you, Rick. That's what I'm looking for... a mild daily driver engine that'll cruise the freeways and coastal highways for long periods of time. I might go with a bigger cam, though.

when I worked @ BH there was this guy that brough all his engine stuff to us to build. Rob in the back built the thing up and got it in the car for the guy. Car looked like a real pile.... you would have never expected it to stomp on 5.0 Mustangs... but oh boy...
It was an 1835 with Engle K8 or K10, typical "So-cal" welded heads, big egg-ports, weld across top of intakes, 1.4 Autocraft rockers and dual 44DCNF Webers. The guy left the shop driveway and stood on it and wasted the tires thru 3rd gear, taking up 3 lanes... it was a religious experience watching him go.
