Ian C, I think what Fred would do to them is what makes them "not cal-look", or am I reading you wrong Fred?

Beetlebug... very interesting concept. Narrowed? COOL, to what width? Also, is that a common tire, up front? I like the way it looks.
Narrowed to 4,5" and the tires are Vredestein Sprint Classics. Old school looks with modern material classified to 135 mph. Full height 155/15 so they will follow the fender quite nicely and also provide enough grip to make use of the disc brakes. AND they are also available in 205/70-15.

Well done, BeetleBug. I really like the look of 155s on the front of a slightly lowered beetle. If I were to run a set of alloys they would be 5.5", anodized like the factory did them, and my choice of tires would be 155s and 185/70s.

I'm not really a fan of the 911 Fuchs just because it will prompt people to say "Hey, you's got one of them Porsche engines in there too?"
That's why I bought a set of JGE center caps without any logos. Somebody, a non-VW person, asked "do you think it's Porsche now as the wheels say Porsche".
Lol, that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid.
So you build your car based on what other people think?

VERY VERY cool. Thanks for the explanation, too. How nice to have matching tires in this day and age. Reminds me of how it used to be.
and they exist in 185/70 as well. so that is ever cooler if you don't have 200hp on tap.
and they look great as well

Beetlebugs front wheels are the ones they should have made.. 5,5's narrowed on the inside to make 4,5's that don't have the (in my opinion) weird look of the originals were the center is on its way out of the rim. Thumbs up!

That's right, they do. I acquired a pair of deep 6s that the PO had bead blasted to bare. Stir in some brake dust to darken them, they look just like MAG!

His wheels started out as a late flat 6" wheel.
Chopping a 5½" wheel is not so easy The drop center isn't a constant diameter, so if you took an inch out, the two pieces don't line up.

I was mostly being facetious, Bruce, though in all honesty the 911 wheel is just not my taste. The 914 2.0 liter I dig more stylistically as well as on the basis that the 914 is closer to a Bug or other air-cooled VW in spirit than a 911 Porsche. It's all a matter of personal tastes, though. I just think the 911 wheel looks out of place on a VW, but that's just me.

Blimey I've had my 4.5s and deeps 6s up for sale for a while. I might have to rethink this now and squirrel them away in the shed because, as someone else said on this thread, I might never be able to get another set again.

I know I'll get backlash for this, lol, but it's simply my opinion. I like the other Porsche wheels, just not the 911 Fuchs. We all know what they say about opinions, so I'll just leave it at that.
We can all agree to disagree, right?

Not at all !
What happiness ! It's really great to hear that there is people who doesnt like Fuch at all !
It's very good for the rating of cookies ! It is time to buy them they are really cheap for Porsche rims !
And for your wallet, what a joy it must be to not love Fuch !
By cons, at a meeting or reading magazines, it must be quite difficult to live because there are fuch everywhere !
It is for me the most beautiful rims design from Porsche.
Somehow, this is already drawing on ancient drums vw...
As nose down gives the speed when the VW is parked.
When Deep Fuch have chosen your car like the glass shoe chooses Cinderella, your VW is based on over 40 years of performance history !
In addition to being well designed and attractive, these wheels give the mythical performance spirit from a Porsche to your car.
And, if you polish them, they gives you some great Californian fresh air.

hé hé, what a nice example

Naw, I don't hate Fuchs by any stretch, just not my favorite. However, I do like other Porsche wheels. Affordability isn't much of a factor as right now I can't afford even a set of chromies

Harvey Weidman is a good resoruce for restoring and to narrow or widen most any rim.
Fuchs make up most of his work.
Weidmans Wheels
OROVILLE, CA
Phone: 530-534-7903
Ignore the width, check out the process and finish.
These rims had the offset changed an inch and new outer lips installed.
Harvey calls this his RSR finish.

They are so beautiful. I received my first set of 4.5s and 5.5 chromed, polished and detailed by Alex Magro yesterday....Totally pimpin. Even my girl said WOW. She usually reserves that for later....
.
I have cookies on my Notch, They will give way to Fuches until they are polished again.
After that, the fuches will go on my 67 vert chassis when it is ready....TOOOO HOT.

The main reason that I bought my fuchs was that I wanted front disc brakes on my '67 and at the time (1999) the only wide 5 disc brake kits available were from Neal or CNC. I didn't think my car would look right with any 4 lug wheels either, so it was actually cheaper to buy a set of fuchs and use redrilled vw brakes! I love my fuchs, though and they will probably be on the car forever.
