Hey guys I've been looking around here for some time and thought I would share my ongoing project with you.

I used to drive a 1972 germanlook beetle (the sequel)

But after 7 years I wanted something different so last winter I started buillding the tikimadness
I raced it at bugin#1 and at ddd5.

It turned out nice but I was on the way of redoing some things such as narrowing the rear suspension to fit the wheels under stock fenders( don't like widend fenders).

I also wanted some more poke in the back so I'm adding a turbo and a 4 barrel to my 2.4 typ4

yesterday I had the change to buy a 1954 oval shell allready prepped and just needs paint.
The body is close to perfection so it's a good base to make a really nice car.

I allways liked metalflake so I'm thinking of gold over brown flake paintjob with TIKIMADNESS in goldleaf

Trying to get that 60's 70's gasserstyle

I'll post pics asap

Michael

I really dig the Tiki Madness theme. Think it will look great with metalflakes etc.

Mmmmm, Tatra 603... Is it the early type with the glass panel across the width of the nose?

yesterday I removed the body to make some changes to the rollcage. The (old) body has been scrapped already because it had no reusable parts.

I'll try to finish the rear suspension and the cage so I can pick up the oval shell and modify it to fit on my floorpan.

I wasn't sure about the flipfront but I decided to not use it but to sell it because I don't think it is much sense to cut up a perfect oval body to then put the flipfront on.

I have been working on the car this weekend and allthough progress is slow I need to sort out these small yhings

The narrowing of the irs is finished and I've been detailing the cage.

Hope to pick up the oval shell very soon,so it's going to look like a car again.

managed to get some free hours during the last few days(late hours).

I made up my mind and decided to loose the innerfenders front and rear and the luggage area and the pieces under the bonnet.
At first I wasn't sure about the cutting but as I took a good look at the car I found that it was never going to be a showwinning body.
That's because the car has been repaired after a serious accident somewhere in the 60s.There are seams along the entire car from the rear left hand side to the front right hand side.it has been done to a very high standard but by cutting up the body I have lost most of the seams.

trialfitted the doors tonight and found out I hav to cut out a piece of the front of the doors in order to close them.Since the rollcage was build last year in a mexico body and the older oval doors are thicker things don't fit the way I thought they would............

also I'm looking where to put the switches and gauges,

@Kobus I'm still thinking about it,on one side it will add a lot of strength but on the other side there is the weight issue.I was thinking of adding a tubular structure from the bottom fenderbolts to the front axle.In case of an accident(hope that never happens)it wil get destroyd any way.
I think I keep withthe subtle tubular structure.

I have to wait until thursday before I can continue  Undecided
