We can't force ya to have fun

« Reply #60 on: May 21, 2007, 23:29:57 pm »

Thanks for keeping me honesty guys. Unfortunately, we've had some financial set-backs. I had to drain the money I had set aside for the car to help bail out some family members. Also, my business has been slow and my expenses have been up so I'm not making the money I was before.

On the plus side, I have been able to star picking up some parts here and there. I've been especially looking for those "hard to find" vintage parts that I'll need to give it that authentic early 80s look.

Also, I may be changing jobs. After 20 years of working for myself I've, found an IT Support job. Completely different than what I'm doing now. I've been through two interviews so far, first with the guy who will be my boss and the second with his boss. Both of those were very positive and both of them said that they want to hire me. I need to have another interview with the next guy up the ladder. This guy is not an IT guy so I'm not sure what to expect. It sounds like that if this guy approves me, I need to be processed through their HR dept. and then I'm in. I have a friend in another part of this organization who says they are very slow when it comes to the hiring process. It took her 3 months from her application to her start day. Pay is less than I made when my business was doing well but more than I'm making now.

As far as more pictures, I'm sure there are some around but I was not much of a picture taker. I'll have to look. I have added some pictures in other parts of the site but I have to add them to this thread.

Funny, I hope to go the other direction with my IT career. A few more years of exp as the network security guy at my local Uni then open up a consulting company doing incidence response and forensics. I know what you mean about how life can suck up all the VW fun money. Sold a few thousand dollars worth of VW stuff at a show a few years ago with the intention of getting some work done on one of my projects. Within a week our heater died (middle of winter) and our other car was in a fender bender. There went that money. Anyway, I was mostly wanting to see some more pics from your car so I could steal a few ideas for my '67.  Grin

And just remember, some days your the windshield, and some days your the bug..er..insect.

I've never really worked IT before. I did some freelance consulting before and some web design. I'm mostly self taught so I don't have really any "education" I can show a prospective employer. Of course, I'm the guy who everyone calls when their computer is acting up. I'm glad that the 2 guys I talked to said basically "We'll know in a week or 2 if you know what you say you know." So basically, I have 2 weeks to show them I can do the job. I It's gonna mostly be trouble shooting applications, internet and wireless networking. Some hardware... swapping out hard drives, video cards etc. Anything more than that, they farm out to their computer supplier, Delll.

I'm always willing to share ideas too, just ask!

Bleah, that sucks. I had that happen too a couple of years ago. Had some money saved up to build an engine for my TIII and our heater died  during the coldest day of the year. Poof it was gone. Hopefully things will get better.

Weldin' is too high falutin... I was gonna just gonna use bailing wire to hold 'em together and then duct tape around the middles so the airs won't leak!

Thanks to Mark (DKK Fred) with tweaking from Fabs (Speedwell) here's the last known picture of my car before the crash. I put the Cookie Cutters and the Euro front fenders on it for the Last OCIR Bug-In and wrecked it a month later.

Anyone have any leads?

Not that I can help you with parts as I live too far but you really need to get that car fixed. It looks awesome with that stance and cookie cutters  Cool

I think the rear is a little too low by todays standards but it does look pretty good in that shot. I don't think the cookies will be going back on it though. Those are slated for another project.

Still have it... In talking with Danny, he'd like to use a new 1/4 if we can find one. The clip is plan "B"  Wink

Really? Who do you know?  Huh Roll Eyes

Just kidding! I already told Sue that we'd be taking the car to AZ for you to do the interior. It will be simple... I like them business like. I 'never cared for the "couch" look that was popular in the '80s. I'm thinking stock door panels and a simple pattern on the seats... but I'm open to suggestions.
