That is amazing - I really can't imagine what that must feel like because I would be minus 10! What is your best single memory of that 30 years? The reason I ask is because I am 100% getting a '67 next year from this old man who lives near me and I am so excited I know my bets memory will be the day I actually ge tit.

I'm hoping that the best memories are yet to come! The car and I have seen a lot of action during the 6+ years I drove it. I think we did 8 Bug-Ins at OCIR. Cruising Whittier Blvd. Club meetings, Drag Racing, Rallyes. A lot of my best memories I've already shared here. the 36 hour Thrash, the Last Bug-In and others.

Not much... picked up a few parts. Been having some issues in getting the body work done but I think I've got a lead for a body shop.

You might want to ditch that louvered firewall though. I LOVE the pictures, I LOVE the story and I LOVE the car! ....Heck - I even LOVE the firewall and the "hot air on windshield distributor plastic thingys" as well - it is exactly what separates the real lookers from the Internet lookers... Purity and genuinity! I simply love it ....... please do not massage this gem into the new school old school look....

(I guess it is another example of rule number 1,5 - Form-Follows-the head of the owner) I love 'em both.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ <-- That's what we in the states call a "raspberry!" rasberry??? i was told by a guy from california that a raspberry was a fart? and on a more serious matter. very good to have this car redone. i see a lot of people just chop their cars apart to sell all the pieces. and not restoring it. to me it is all about to preserve a car, love it and make it into something that you like in the first place. and it is better if you have good taste, like a cal-look taste or resto-cal-taste.... but anyway glad you hang onto it and finally could get it back in working order. keep up the nobel work
OK... so you know how all you Euro guys like the USA spec cars cuz they're different than all the Euro cars that your buddies have? Well, I had worked on converting my US code '67 to a Euro code Deluxe '67. Disc Brakes (Yes 5 on 205 were std on US '67s), short overriders, Amber Tops, VW 1500 decklid and early headlights.. although I had early 911 headlights in it. I even had an OE Steering lock but I never installed it. US cars weren't equipped with those either. Actually, when I wrecked it, it was 5 lug... Porsche 5 lug. I had Cookie Cutters on it. Still have those too. WHY? Cuz everyone had US Code '67s and a Euro Code '67 was rare. The irony of the situation is that my orginal German Steel US Code front fenders were in the attic of my parents house when I crashed. I think it would be pretty hard to replace those now... and yes, they're still there.
But I'm with you on the headlights, make it right Rick Yes my good man, I do know that...but in the very first pic, the car undesputably sports a set of eight spokes (original Spyders i recon?)...with 4 bolts each. I doesn't seem to like adaptors are used, but I might be mistaken on that one.
I doesn't seem to like adaptors are used, but I might be mistaken on that one. As shubee pointed out, those were not Empis. They were the very first set of copies that came out in the late 70s. I bought the 1st set that came into Dave Greiner's Auto Haus in Orange. No Adapters were used on the car. I took 68 rear drums and had the noses cut down to fit the '67 axles. In the front I used '68 front drums for a short while and then put together a disc brake setup using junkyard Karmann Ghia spindles with new rotors, bearings and T3 calipers.
