It's 106 miles to Fontana... we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of smokes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Looks like DKK Fred has just visited you and said "we need to put the band back together"  Cool

Guess who's coming home tomorrow!   Grin Grin

VERY cool, Rick! I'm guessing that it's home by now, yes? I've been without Internet service at my house for awhile... just now getting caught up on these other forums. Stoked for ya man.

Actually not yet. We had to postpone because of concerns over the weather. Hoping to do it next weekend

THIS... is the best post I've seen on this thread. Congrats, Rick! Cool to see that it came home a day early. Call me when you're ready for the original paint to be worked on. Same thing with the wheels.

Thanks for sharing/helping, Nanci!

Normally I'd agree with you Randy but since that sticker has been on that window for almost 30 yrs I'm asking for a special dispensation from the rest of the club to allow that sticker to stay in place. However, if the club feels that it should be removed, I'll pull it without hesitation.

Thanks Mark! And thanks to Nanci & Lisa but most of all a big thanks to Henry! It would not have come home without him. He did everything tonight as I had a commitment. He & Nanci were waiting at my house when I got home at 9:30 and we wheeled it into the garage. More pics to follow.

The bodywork came out excellent It just looks great.

How about just paining the primer bits in rattle can beige for now, just to get it in one colour? Keeps the original paint too. Bet you're glad to get it home though! Smiley

Current plans call for having the car spotted in by an artist who feels he can match not just the color but the shine of the original paint. We're gonna get it driving first. and actually it will probably have another trip to the body shop to get the rear fenders gone over. Then we'll have DKK Fred work his magic on what's left of the original paint. Then the touchup will begin.

Awesome. I've started driving my bug recently having revamped it after leaving it to sit for three years and I can't stop grinning when I drive it - after the length of time yours has been off the road you'll never stop smiling when it's back! Grin

Nothing Major. Been picking up parts here and there...

Wife is getting on me because I keep buying stuff but she hasn't seen the parts go on the car... I keep telling her that I gotta get the inside parts done first before I can bolt on the outside parts  Wink Cheesy

During the Classic Weekend, Bill suggested that I may want to go with a different timeline for the project than the way I had been heading. I need to sit down with him and rethink a few things. In fact I was gonna call him tonight and see if he'd have some time to get together this week.  I don't know if Bill knows it but he's been drafted as "Project Manager"  Grin

Also during The Classic, I talked to Greg Brinton about his part in the project and when I can get the car over to his shop so he can lay hands (welder, wrenches, etc.) on it.  Cheesy

Got Mike Herbert lined up to do the trans on it.

Talked to Fred and John Rayburn about helping with the "Shiny" part of the car too.

Really the best part of this project is that I get to have all my friends work on it with me.  Wink

Parts and more parts!

Picked up a set of Udo's finest lifters from V-Dub parts today. I was gonna talk to Udo direct about shipping a set over but when I found that V-Dub had them, it was too convenient.

Have all of the top end now and the valve train except for the camshaft.
