Thanks j-f, Bob & Lee.

I pick up parts now and again when I see stuff I need. Hoping to get it out to get the suspension and brakes done soon.

Thanks Lee.

Thanks Rick. It was my first car too, bought in 1995 when I was 17. That photo was taken in 2011, on a Saturday morning, with the car having been finished on the Thursday night after being parked on my drive and ignored for about 4 years! I went to a wedding several years ago where the bride and groom left the  church in a 10 second street legal drag bug in a cloud of tyre smoke and the cake stand at the reception was the flywheel,  crank and rods from an alcohol V8 funny car!

Anyway, back on topic, without me going through the whole thread again, what's left to do on your car?

Anyway, back on topic, without me going through the whole thread again, what's left to do on your car?

This wasn't my first car but it was my first VW. I had a '67 Mustang coupe then a '71 Fiat 124 Spyder before buying the '67. I was 19 when I bought it.

Body work has been done. One of the ironies of the crash was that the original German steel, US '67 front fenders were in my parents attic. We pulled them out and they are back on the car.

Next step is suspension and brakes. I had been waiting for a spot in Greg Brinton's shop to open up so I could have him do the work but last weekend fellow Deek Mark Ramirez generously offered to do some of the work. I'll need to work out the specifics but I may make him regret making that offer. Wink

It's gonna get rear discs and the rest of the brakes gone through. new lines, braided stainless hoses etc. I converted it to front disks in the late 70s with KG spindles and (I think) Type III calipers.

Suspension is gonna be new beam from Old Speed, with dropped spindles. Koni shocks. The rear is going to have SAW adjustable spring plates and short axles. I'm hoping to keep the Z-Bar if I can work it out.

It will need a motor and trans. I have about a third of the parts to put the motor together. Gonna be a 2332cc with those Jeff Denham heads & 48s. A little bit of an increase from 1776cc 48 motor that was in it when that pic was taken.

I'll have Mike Herbert help me out with a trans.

Got a couple of tricks for the interior & exterior.

The idea is to make it sympathetic to a car built in the late 70's, early 80's without being so nuts as to not take advantage of some of the later developments in technology.

The whole idea is to make it's Cal-Look survivor status it's biggest asset. Sure I could build it in a more modern way and make it all shiny and new but I think that would take away from it. It's provenance should be kept. When Bill and I started talking about pulling it out, he convinced me to go this way with it and I'm glad he did.

Off to a top secret location in Stanton.

No, not the Motel 6 and no Norwegians were involved let alone harmed in this operation.

Brintech

It's been 35 years since these '67s were parked together. So much history in these cars.

Went to Greg's shop to check progress and drop off some parts.

The beam is in with the trailing arms and spindles. New master. Steering box has been gone through
