Yeah, a blind mother with a face like a foot sitting atop an ugly tree with a collection of ugly sticks!

There were beetles made before '68 ?

 Cheesy Grin

 Grin

the car frenchy had looks great as well, mosly because off the choice of wheels and the colour on them  Tongue, nah it just proves supers can look good as well.

Nicolas, Frenchy's orange car was a '74 Standard... not a Super. Of course, the U.S. models made after '73 look very close to each other.

ah that explains why the front looks more like a regular beetle. thanks.

Man, seeing the back bumper on Frenchys latemodel car makes me think of Steve Urkel!

The American bumper laws weren't kind to the front either... Cheesy

If it wasn't for the US safety regulations, what would the Beetle have turned into?

If the Mexican car are anything to go by it would have stayed much the same...
On the topic of safety regulations dictating the look of a car... did the US bumpers grow out of a law?

Yes... in 1974 bumpers were required to absorb a 5mph impact with no damage. That's why the bumpers were made bigger and had energy absorbing mounts.

One of my favourite cars, built by Travis Ryder I believe.

Anyone know what happened to it?

Stretch, I can't see the pictures due to the school firewall, but I'm guessing it was the beryl green GTV? As far as I know, it was sold minus the drivetrain, which went into a blue South African '58, also a GTV look-alike, which later became Inch Pincher IV. Jon Abbott at Java may know more, Joe G might be able to give a bit of info too. Cool car, but it was around the time I was away at uni so although Trav was fairly local, I didn't see much other than the odd trip over to Java and Kingfisher. Smiley

[hijack] my parents are in Cardiff this week - sounds like the weather is coming for them! [/hijack]

Stop the presses! The beige '69 with matching bumpers and VW Sport wheels gets my vote. What a great looking car.

If it had a factory shroud it would have 3 wire holders.

True. If it were mine, it would have Type 3 wire ends and I'd have Glenn restore the vintage Bosch distributor back to it's proper glory. It would also have big heater boxes and a fresh air shroud, topped off with a fully blacked out engine and exhaust.

What a great looking car, though. What's going on with the front turn indicators? Hard to tell in the pic with my old eyes. I'd leave the factory ones shaved and add a painted Mex bumper with the rubber impact strip.

Wow, I'm getting old... thought they were EMPI wheels or something else. I actually like all silver Pedrinis. Oh well.

That's right, Empi did make a wheel like that.
