Dam Elnef! This is indeed not the news I was hoping for. Time to grab a beer and reconsider things. Then afterwards look at the shelf with all the parts you have collected over the years, add a couple of new parts, a turbo and go faster than ever before.

Take care buddy,

NOOO!!!

Very sad Friday for me too.
Really looks like it was the crank in fact that gave away.
Or did you see anything else yet that could have triggered it?
Any history of this crank that is hidden or you bought it new?

Yes it was an expensive day at the dyno but thats racing I dont know what I will do right now guess I am stupid enough to build a new one to see how mutch better the big mufler is   Smiley

Yes I bought the crank it new 5 years ago
I belive it was my crank there gave up no sign of anything else
As far I have looked at the parts not a lot can be reused

I am/was wery happy with my dyno result so not everything was bad  Smiley

Hi Udo

Any reason you ask ?
My old crank was brand new when I build the engine first time

My plan is to use this crank since I got it and it did not sell and yes its new bought from scat back in the late 90

That is the older forged one, much stronger than the new billet cranks. Looks good. If it is a used one i would magnaflux it .

I hope we see you on the track next year , this is why i ask

Elnef!

I've read thru this thread ... All I can say is WOW! You are one RESILIENT Dude! Wink
Many would haver called it quits but you just keep going and Going and GOING! We should rename you "TIMEX"!
Whereas I am sorry to hear of the failure on the dyno, I wish you VERY MUCH GOOD LUCK in the near future and hope you get it down the track sooner than later!
Wish I could help in some other way ...

Thanks I guess I need all the luck I can get  Smiley

I belive it is a part of the game to rebuild it when it break down but like others I sometimes thinks now its enough and all just can be sold
But then that said I would really like to try the car on the strip with all the new mods
I dream about a 10sek car
Just ordered new ti valves and rods from pauter

The new light weight rods with smaller bolts should work with that stroke. By the way , i told you that i would never make more than 80 mm on an engine like that . Our most powerfull engine has 80x105 with pauter heads and EFI
But your older scat crank should work

Yes its the new light model I have bought
I belive the old crank will be up to the job if not I now know what happen  Wink
My long time good friend Griebel had made a lot of measurements on the crank and its ok and straight
I know you told me about max 80mm but like my parrents always say I wont listen
The engine you talk about is it svens ?
What does it made of hp and at what rpm ?
What kind of pistons do you use flat top or dome ?
Does Kemp not still use an 86mm crank ?

Broken Scat 86mm seemes to be a general problem,- already broken 2 on my own, one old style and one new. Is there anyone that makes better cranks, or have done it before to look for seconhand, or is it maybe a good idea to ask Pauter to start produsing them for us...I recon he needs more then one order to even consider to make a batch.

I also thought about asking pauter for a crank . may be moldex still makes one ?
You must look for straightness and craks each year ..like i do with the 86 from Thomas
Yes it is Svens engine . we had 320 hp , very strong in the midrange because of the EFI . I hope he races next year

I have a friend that had Moldex make him a Type lV 88mm stroker with Chevy jrl's some years ago (so yes Moldex will still do Type lV cranks), which the motor is still in the build process. It had cost him $2000 plus shipping.

But I am looking at having http://www.marinecrankshaftinc.com/billet-crankshafts.html make me a crankshaft, they have a good rep and their local.

Here are a couple pics of the 88mm Moldex

Marine crankshaft does nice work, they will make any crank you want. Dave Eden is the owner, nice guy.

That gives us 2 alternatives, but are they any stronger than Scats??
Scat have produced cranks for many years, they should how to make them strong enough...?
Sorry for hijacking your trad Elnef, but I have reason to belive that many t4 builders are folowing it.
